New Photoshop Tutorial - Putting a Square Peg into a Round Hole!

Or a square image into a round frame, or a frame that's any other shape, as the case may be!

This is the first of three that deal with this topic. I'm keeping them short, because of the amount of time I'm spending renovating the new house, and getting ready to move into it. (This is a question that people who are moving from PS Elements to PS often ask, which is why I'm answering it here.)

So, first off, how to manage when the frame image has been flattened, but the frame area is either all one color, or a regular shape.

Next week, how to do it when the frame is flat, but it's not a regular shape, and it's not a single color, either.

Enjoy! I'm off to work on more house stuff. We are walking around on the sub floor in the new place, but we have our cable modem up! Priorities, you know. :D

PS Tip for This Week - Straighten Up!

This week, the Photoshop Tip shows how easily to straighten a photo when the automatic Crop and Straighten are unsuccessful.

Hope you like it! I'm planning to use this technique in reverse in a few weeks, which is why I'm showing it now.

In other news, if all goes well I'll finish stripping the wallpaper from the new house tonight, and will be able to start painting on Friday!

Man, I'm tired.

Using Blend If to Change PS Sky - Part 2 Now Up!

This week's Tuesday Photoshop Tip is now up on YouTube! More about using Blend If to change the sky behind a bunch of little fiddly branches without needing any kind of mask.

The tips for the next few weeks are probably going to be fairly short. We bought a new house; closed on Feb. 26, and now we're in the "renovation" phase.

It was a foreclosed property, like a bit more than half the homes being sold in MI right now, so there's quite a bit to do.

The old carpet was completely ruined, so we've ripped it all out, and are having bamboo floors put in instead. The last people to live there removed all the wall cabinets from the bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry area. So those all have to be replaced.

They also did little vindictive things like taking a part from the water heater, so it's non-functional. That part is on order now, and we'll have hot water there as soon as it comes in. I hope.

Most of the ceiling fixtures were also taken, so we're putting in fans instead. Lots of stuff like that. And quite a bit of cleaning needs to be done, inside and out.

And then, of course, there is all the sorting and throwing away to be done after 10 years of living in this rental home. (The longest I've ever lived anywhere in my entire life, by the way.) And then the eventual move itself.

So, I'm going to be somewhat busy for the next couple of months. Everything should be done by the first of May, though, and hopefully I'll be able to do more work than ever, when the computer is no longer in a basement!

New Photoshop Tutorial - Change the Sky without Masks!

This technique will let you put clouds in a clear blue sky, without using any kind of masks. It's really simple, and effective too!

On other fronts, we've purchased a new house! We closed last Friday. There's a lot of work that needs to be done before we can move in. (It was a foreclosed property.) So I'm going to be kind of busy for a while. We're allowing ourselves two months to get it done, and get moved. Wish us luck!
