Today I'm starting a series of Photoshop Tutorials about brushes. We'll probably be doing this for a few months, at one lesson a week, because brushes are so very rich and powerful, and so very, very flexible.
Also, Brushes changed in CS5; so first I'm going to show you how they worked in CS4 and earlier versions, and then I'll show you the new ways.
We'll start out by learning how to get the cursor you want, and how to change the diameter and hardness of a brush from a panel, or directly from the keyboard. Then we'll begin to tap into the power of the Brush panel by looking at spacing, roundness and angle. You'll learn how to make a calligraphic brush that has exactly the dimensions and angle that you want! Finally, we'll take a look at flipping captured brushes either horizontally or vertically, so you'll know what's going on next week, when we play with Shape Dynamics!
